We are very proud of our Chairperson’s Fund’s involvement in the Tshwane Library Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) Programme. The Chaiperson’s Fund has been sponsoring this programme since 2006. Five ABET Centres are currently functioning in the Tshwane region namely in Temba, Hammanskraal, Olievenhoutbosch, Ga-rankuwa and Stanza Bopape. A total of 87 learners have received training from 1 April 2007 – 31 March 2008 and there are many heart-warming success stories.Tshwane Community Library and Information Services reports in their progress report that the ABET programme has been very progressive during this financial year and they have seen a huge improvement in the learners as well as much enthusiasm in the tutors. Most of the learners who are in ABET level 1 programmes can now for the first time in their lives read and write, they have seen this training as an opportunity of a life time.Sabinet’s Chairperson’s Fund has decided to increase its support to this worthy project in the new financial year. The additional support will enable Tshwane to open a new centre in Nellmapius (East of Pretoria) and to appoint two new tutors for this region. We want to say thank you to the 11 tutors who are doing an excellent job in changing people’s lives.
