How the Legal Research Assistant works
The Legal Research Assistant is designed to support a more efficient and structured approach to South African legal research, while maintaining transparency, traceability and confidence in the sources provided.
Users can ask questions in natural language without the need to construct complex search queries. The tool interprets the query and retrieves relevant information from Sabinet’s curated legal content.
This includes South African National Legislation (NetLaw), South African Provincial Legislation, South African Municipal By-Laws, South African Judgments, and the Sabinet African Law journal collection. The Legal Research Assistant works within this content environment and draws exclusively on these verified, locally relevant sources of legal information. The Legal Research Assistant grounds responses in the South African legal context and aligns them with the content available on the platform.
Pricing and Subscription
The Legal Research Assistant is offered as a subscription-based tool within Sabinet Discover and must be used together with an active subscription to the underlying content. Results are based on the sources available within Sabinet Discover, and access to the sources depends on the user’s subscription.
For users who prefer not to subscribe to the Legal Research Assistant, alternative research approaches remain available. Including query bundles. These provide flexibility for users who may wish to purchase a number of queries for their questions and then purchase the specific documents of interest.
The Legal Research Assistant presents responses in a structured format and includes clear links to the underlying source material from Sabinet’s collections. This allows users to move from an answer directly to the relevant legislation, judgment or law journal article, supporting verification and deeper research.
Because results are based on subscribed content, users are able to work confidently within their available resources. Moving from initial query to source material without leaving the Sabinet Discover environment.
By combining natural-language input with curated legal content and direct access to supporting materials, the Legal Research Assistant helps users move efficiently from query to answer. It also supports deeper research when required.
